From modest one-story homes to lavish resort-styled homes, the Presidents of the United States have had a variety of real estates to call home outside of the White House. Here’s a look at some of our Presidents’ homes:
President Barack Obama
Our current Commander-in-Chief, President Barack Obama, owns a lavish real estate in Chicago, Illinois. This Georgian-styled mansion sits on a spacious corner lot. The home is estimated to be worth over $2 million and is over 6,000 square feet. Today, the property is a popular tourist destination. Although guests are not allowed inside of the home, like they are in the White House, visitors still admire the home’s beauty from outside.
Ronald Reagan
Former President Ronald Reagan once owned a luxurious 3 bedroom and 6 bathroom real estate in Los Angeles, CA. This mansion, built in 1954, is over 7,000 square feet and sits on a 1.5-acre lot. While nestled between beautifully tailored landscaping, the property also has a swimming pool that sits near the corner of the estate. Reagan’s former mansion is estimated to be over the hefty price of $14 million.
Bill Clinton
Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton, own a beautiful colonial – style real estate in Washington, DC. This property, known as WhiteHaven, is located in the famous neighborhood of Observatory Circle. This three-story home is over 5,000 square feet with 4 bedrooms and seven bathrooms. The home is estimated to be worth over $6 million and is not currently on the market.
Abraham Lincoln
Located in Springfield, Illinois, former President Abraham Lincoln’s home is now a national historic site. The home is modestly sized and was purchased by Lincoln and his wife for only $1,200 in 1844. The home was a fixer-upper for the Lincoln family. Several years after their move-in, they built a second story for the home. The home also currently has a porch, two chimneys, and plantation-style shutters.
Gerald R. Ford
Former President Gerald R. Ford is said to be fond of skiing. So, it comes as no surprise that one of his former properties is located in Vail, Colorado. The home featured a presidential master suite on the top floor with views of the nearby Beaver Creek Mountain. The rustic-style home features 7 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. The property was originally listed for sale at $14 million after Ford’s death. It has since gone through several price cuts and the home’s selling price was finally listed at $8 million.
George W. Bush
Prairie Chapel Ranch, located in Crawford, Texas in McLennan County, sits on over 1,000 acres of land. The ranch acted as a retreat for Bush during his presidency. The eight rooms of the home are modestly sized with high-ceilings. The property also houses a guest home and separate garage. The features on the grounds of this ranch are the selling points. The grounds of the property include several canyons and a recently added man-made pond that spans 11 acres of land. The pond has even been stocked with various types of fish. The property is currently not on the market as the former president still calls this ranch home.
