Actual notice to one or more individuals to cease and desist from performing a particular action. For example, a homeowner begins constructing several new rooms onto an existing house without obtaining a building permit. The municipal building department subsequently issues a notice of cessation to the homeowner ordering him to stop all further work on the renovation until a building permit has been legally obtained.
